Macular Degeneration Presentation by Dr. Simmons

We were delighted to welcome Dr. Simmons of Benton Eye Clinic to speak with us yesterday.  Dr. Simmons spoke on Macular Degeneration.  He explained the differences between Wet Macular Degeneration and Dry Macular Degeneration and took time to answers all of our questions.   He was kind enough to answer dozens of questions from the packed audience.

After the presentation, Dr. Simmons and his staff gave away prizes! 

 

It was wonderful having Dr. Simmons be a part of our August Wellness Month.  Eye care is so vital to our overall health and taking a proactive approach to controlling our eye care by listening to Dr. Simmons was invaluable.

Food Experience

Our fabulous team of chefs collected recipes from our residents and created an entire meal based off submissions and recommendations by our lovely residents. The meal was fantastic!   Ribs were made in the "Mike" style.  Wilma donated her own special potato salad idea.  Marilyn presented a fabulous entree idea and we rounded out the meal with Craisin cookies that were created by a recipe given to the chefs by Neva.

It was a remarkable lunch that we won't soon be forgetting!   Thanks to our fabulous staff and residents for partnering together to make this possible!

School Supply Collection Bus

We are so excited to be able to take the month of July to focus on giving back to our community.  We are all so blessed and would like to pay it forward.  

We have partnered with Hillcrest Orphanage to collect school supplies for the children who live there.  We are collecting pens, pencils, paper, crayons and every other school supply that you can think of. 

A few residents gathered together to turn an old stove box into a shiny new school bus to serve as the collection spot for the supplies.

 

It took a village to make this happen.

 

 

We caught Ronny walking down the hall and recruited his help.

We had a great time making the bus and look forward to seeing what all wonderful items we can collect through the month of July.  Come on in and drop off supplies-they are going to a great place!

We loaded in the Bus this afternoon to enjoy the beautiful Spring Weather at Gulfa Goge!  Chef Joseph joined us and grilled us delicious Hotdogs and Hamburgers.   We played Bag-O and Ladder ball, too!

What are you two getting into??

 

So.  A Ladder Ball ball got thrown into a tree.  Tom, naturally, throws another ball into the tree to knock down the first.  Which obviously got stuck, too.  Then Steve and Tom tried to knock them down with a Golf Club.  

 

Golf Clubs don't belong in trees.

 

So Joe threw a beanbag in the tree to knock down the two balls.  

 

The beanbag got stuck.

 

Chef Joseph decided to throw a broom in the tree to knock down the balls and beanbag.  

 

The broom got stuck, too.

 

 

 

We used a stack of bricks and a cane to reach the branch and pull it towards us.  From there, we were able to untie the balls and get back to the game!

We had a FANTASTIC time today!  The company was wonderful, the weather was spectacular, and the food was delicious!   Join us next month, we're going to Pinnacle Mountain in Little Rock-and we're going to make s'mores!!
